IMHO, this is a design flaw that should have been picked up by BA on pre-acceptance testing. Not sure exactly how that works, bit IME when someone is about to spend many millions on a product that has to both work well and have substantial resistance to being being bashed about… they put a lot of effort into being absolutely sure it will do the job before they sign a contract.
A multi million pound fleet of new trains that had endless design meetings, prototype drivers desks made, plus regular visits to the factory in Spain failed to establish that the "cup holders" designed into the train driver desk were made to fit takeaway coffee cups, and not actually regular cups that some people (myself included) carry with them to make hot drinks whilst on shift.
It leads me to believe that some people like the trips and many meetings that take place, but fail to notice the details or environment that the equipment will be used in everyday.
