I tend to book stays well in advance, so I presume I'd have some advantage there.

But are folks selecting all SUAs and able to use them all, are they difficult to use and folks end up with leftovers each year, etc. Or maybe they can be traded for decent value making them worth the selection anyways (points would be my next choice so a trade would have to exceed the points option).

Any thoughts on the optimal strategy would be much appreciated, especially given the slight difference between milestone selections along the way (e.g. at 40 you get 5k points or 1 SUA vs. at 50 you get 5k points or 2 SUAs).

Thanks!
If you’re burning a lot of SUA’s and value them then sure. The last 2 years I’ve ended up gifting out 2 of my SUA’s simply because I didn’t use them. I didn’t use them because 95% of my stays were get upgraded to a suite anyways.

So it’s not really as easy as just saying Yes or No, you should look at where you’re staying, what dates you’re staying, what shows as available and so on.

For me personally I do -

40 - 5k points
50 - SUA’s
60 is automatic can’t even choose if you wanted to do so.
70 - 10k points

YMMV
