Hopefully these originate/terminate in YYZ and we can get some more WB capacity back on the YYZ/YVR route, especially mid-morning/early-afternoon...not liking the steady diet of 321's + MAX on the current schedule.
Thinking out loud here..
- No one else offering widebodies on that route. WS could technically but given their 787s are based in YYC makes things more complicated
- The vast majority of flyers prefer frequency to equipment on routes. Narrowbodies provide more frequency – and yes another example of where the real world and the FT world do not align
Perhaps AC tested the waters on offering premium lie-flat and PY on it’s busiest TCON Route(s) and swapped planes between TATL/TPAC à TCON to accommodate only to realize the yield for TCON flights was lower than applying that metal to TATL/TPAC/SA routes only.
As an example, US carriers are reducing domestic widebody routes (AA dropped LAX-MIA past year) and the only consistent premium offerings (Delta One Polaris etc)offerings seems to be NYC-SFO/LAX.
This may be a future route for the XLRs
