Looking in September I see the 9:59a departure on AA and the 8:30a departure on UA.

Go with UA if you want to be safe, as soon as you're pushing back (or airborne) pull up the AA reservation at aa.com and cancel it.

Not that it matters but you wouldn't need to check-in for the AA flight in that scenario.

Alternatively, if you wake up and the UA flight is delayed, then just cancel that one and go with AA.
