My husband and I are flying to Paris in mid-June and we have a two night IST Stopover on return. We have separate PNR's, both in J. My plan is for each of us to book a single room (TK website will not allow a double) and then write to Turkish and ask them to combine the two singles and give us a double room.
These are the hotels offered at present:
- Lokalist, Istanbul, a Tribute Porfolio Hotel
- Movenpick Bosphorus
- Radison Blu Hotel, Istanbul Pera
- Sheraton Levent
- Radisson Sisli
- Marriott Sisli
- Le Meridien Etiler
I chose the Radisson Pera from the same set of options shown above and I thought I made the right choice. My room had a stunning view of the Golden Horn, possibly thanks to my Radisson VIP status and I was able to watch the sunset right from my window. The location is also fantastic, just a short stroll to İstiklal Avenue and Galata Tower, with the metro station (Sishane) nearby as well.
That said, I agree with the above posters about the inconvenience of getting there by metro from the airport. The transfer at Gayrettepe can be confusing. You’ll find yourself walking in circles before finally connecting to Metro Line 2. Then, when you reach Şişhane, the walk to the hotel involves uneven footpaths, which can be difficult if you’re carrying a lot of luggages.
If it fits your budget, I highly recommend taking a taxi instead, it’ll make your overall experience much more pleasant.
