My husband and I are flying to Paris in mid-June and we have a two night IST Stopover on return. We have separate PNR's, both in J. My plan is for each of us to book a single room (TK website will not allow a double) and then write to Turkish and ask them to combine the two singles and give us a double room.

well - if you look up the hotel location on google maps. - my choice would be lokalist or radisson pera if you plan to do some sightseeing.
they are the only perfectly located hotels. all other hotels are far out of the center with almost no quick public transport options.
Radisson sisli location would be second choice. it is a few minutes walk from the Sisli metro stop.
from lokalist at taksim you can take the funicular down to kabatas and take a ferry or the tram into sultanahmed or take the tram to ride along Istiklal or take the metro at Taksim.
