You may also want to look at ticket types. An East of Scotland Dayrider will be cheaper than a regular single fare and allows you to use other Stagecoach services if you require them. And one I hadn't come across before, check the price of a return even if you don't plan to use it.

ETA: Should have mentioned this is for the bus option raised by Misco60.
