Just wondering—in what order are upgrades assessed? I submitted an Elite SH Recognition Upgrade for a trans-Tasman flight, but it looks like there are plenty of seats available and the flight is due to depart soon. I was thinking of possibly swapping it for an EAP upgrade instead and saving the short-haul recognition upgrade for future use.
For Elite members, is the priority Recognition Upgrade > APD Upgrade, or is it based on the time the upgrade is requested?
Also, if the flight is fairly empty, would it be more cost-effective to request an upgrade at the lounge using fewer APD points? Think it was offered to me once but I can't quite remember.

As an Elite Pax an RU and an APDU upgrades instruments should hold the same priority. Changing from an RU to APDU will reset you submitted date. Date when submitted is how upgrades for the same status tier are assessed.
APDU are a fix APD amount for the route. Requesting an upgrade in the lounge will not be less APD. Also lodging in the lounge is too late as most upgrades will be locked in by that point (once checkin is closed), save some missconnection no shows.
