Hotel refusing to make charges to a room folio
I am curious if anyone has ever seen this before. I just checked into the Moxy Lisboa Oriente, Portugal and wished to charge some food / drink and other charges to my room. I was told it was hotel policy as of 6 months ago that they only take "direct" ie, credit card payment when buying any items, for anything at all. They told me that someone 6 months ago walked out of the hotel with a "big bill" and since then they have this policy from management. I told them this is the only Marriott property in the world I have heard this from, and asked if this was a concern, like almost every other hotel in the world, could they not take a credit card hold from me, which was declined and they didn't budge from the position.
I am trying to hit Ambassador status this year and was planning to make qualifying charges to the room.
In any case, is this in violation of some brand or Bonvoy participating property standard? Has anyone ever come across anything as absurd as this "policy" before?
