Maison Heler Metz, Curio Collection by Hilton {FRA}

Opened in March 2025, and a recommendation for those who like the unusual! about an hour by car from Luxembourg, Nancy, Saarbrücken.

The hotel is the brainchild of the French industrial designer and architect Philippe Starck. He has written an "imaginary tale" (available on the bedside table in the room) that in turn serves as the inspiration for the hotel. All a bit nuts. “Maison Heler was born of a surreal, poetic tale I imagined. It is a hotel conceived as a habitable work of art, a literary principle crystallized in matter." Ph. STARCK - easiest to read up on this here: https://www.starck.com/maison-heler-p5380

We stayed for three nights, and the hotel still appeared to be relatively quiet. However the restaurant lunchtime (!) and evening service were buzzing - turns out the "Starck Hotel" as locals appear to know it has a strong local draw as a food destination.

We received an upgrade to a small suite as Diamonds. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, breakfast excellent but service there oddly unattentive.

Very high quality hardware, with the theme of the hotel reflected everywhere: on plates, on windows, on corridors, in the wardrobe, on the notepads, for the room numbers, the carpets etcetera - everywhere you looked there is the repeating theme of the strange and wonderful inventions of the past. The attention to detail is impressive. Unfortunately one detail is that all window blinds are set in a way that makes the rooms fairly dark and makes it impossible to look into the distance from the rooms. I would not be surprised if the hotel dropped that element of its "design language" sooner or later.
Light switches were retro and cool but didn't help to figure out how to control which light.
The spa will open in 2026; there is no car parking owned by the hotel, but public car parks are available next door.
The Hilton App refers to an Executive Lounge in its hotel guide - that does not exist.

The city of Metz is also well worth a visit, and walkable from the hotel. less than 5 mins on foot from the hotel is Le Centre Pompidou-Metz - a dependence of the Paris one and definitely a highlight of Metz.

Overall, if you like to try a little bit of a quirky place, more driven by design than function in parts, I very much recommend a visit.
