Was there Thursday night for an early Friday flight. Used an expiring free night certificate, so the price was right. But I felt it was a good value received in trade.

Upgraded to runway view on 4, but didn't have the noise issues mentioned above. (Which is funny, because my wife can usually hear a cricket burp on the roof). I suppose the exact location of your room is everything.

I had a better experience in the concierge club also. Three small-plate hot offerings (two kinds of pizza, one OK and one good; and a vegetarian pasta bake, which was very good). Two very unusual small-plate salads (one quite good, and the other Mrs. Jayer tried and vetoed while I was still busy with the pizza offerings). A sliced European-style bread, a fruit and grain crispy thing, fruit, and an eclectic variety of cubed cheese. Later I made myself quit after one serving of the most-appealing choice of chocolate thing desserts, and a cookie (both were quite good, and the other choices at least looked good). Presided over and selection refreshed by a hostess who was a good match for the task. (I suppose it didn't hurt that we arrived just after she set it all out).

My only criticism is breakfast was not available before the first bank of flights, or at least the first wave going south. So I can't comment on breakfast. (But I might have bagged up a few of the fruit and grain crispy things, fruit and cheese, and a cookie the night before. Best in-flight meal I've had in years).

I live in the US, where hotel concierge clubs have mostly been very downgraded or outright closed, so maybe I have a low bar. But I would book it again. Good hotel clubs were part of what helped me get through living on the road all those years ago when I had to, It was oddly nostalgic and refreshing to be in one that actually still functioned as they should. Perhaps it is because it is an international airport location. (Or maybe just Canada, eh)?

It was my first trip through Calgary in decades, so things have changed quite a bit at the airport. As an international connecting city goes; I recommend it. If I had complete control over my routings and bookings, and I don't, I might choose to use this as my inbound gateway to the US (since they do customs pre-clearance there). If you need details on how to transit the Calgary airport on your way back to the US feel free to PM me.
