We are a family of 5 flying tomorrow morning. Flight completely full and they are asking for volunteers but almost all of MCE is empty. Not surprising since it's a leisure destination.

MCE is $140 for a 3 hour flight so not worth it x 5. Is there any way to get free MCE since I can't see anyone buying it? I'm guessing that it will go to basic economy passengers checking in but wondering if we can get it. Do I just ask nicely at check in desk or the gate?

Any downside to checking in now on our normal economy seats?
