Update 1
So, when I checked in at the Premium area this morning the machine asked me if I wanted to seat select. I said yes, to see what would happen. The screen showed vacant seats in the premium cabin, including two available BP Luxe seats. I tried to select one but the machine wouldn’t allow it. Sigh.
An Air NZ staffer wandered over to offer assistance. She tried to help but got the same answer from the machine. She then went to her computer and typed away for a minute, before saying the two BP Luxe seats were blocked out. She rang someone and got one unblocked for me, so I’m now waiting to board and experience the new product.
