ORD-FLL 8am June 28th my son got an offer to upgrade to F for $146. He has no status.

He originally purchased a round-trip and selected the Main Plus fare that included an MCE Seat and Bag for both legs.

My question is will he get a refund for the Plus extra cost ?
Or was Plus factored into his upgrade price ?
IIRC you used to get a refund on the MCE fee, and of course no charge for bags until check-in.

Currently Plus is $251
The First fare is $442 = $196 difference
So $146 is a $50 savings that does Not seem great.
Main fare is $199 + $146 = $345 that seems great.
I didn't look up what he actually paid.

$146 does fit a rule of I saw here or somewhere of $50/hour

I'm EP and in paid F. It's an A321 with 16 of 20 seats open. I did not see his phone so I think the offer is just for the Leg to FLL. Does AA make round-trip upgrade offers?
