I understand that hotels see BAH bookings in the same way as bargain-basement Expedia reservations so I doubt there would be any incentive for hotel chains to offer status benefits. I suppose the reality is that the majority of people buying a BAH are looking to make an additional saving by buying their flights and hotel together and so there is probably little incentive for BA to alter their approach. Perhaps a segmented agency such as “BA Signature Holidays” or something similar could work.

I have seen reports that changing your hotel booking in some way at check-in such that you need to pay extra generally results in being able to use status and receive points but the caveat would be what BA are now saying about taking action against passengers who do this, although the primary intention seems to be in relation to booking a room for one that is then used by a whole family.
