If your prices are return would not expect much change 4 months out.
Business class fares do not change that much. Economy/coach can change by a bigger %.
BNE can be cheaper. Far more capacity than demand.
Right now fares for round trip multi City are $950 for economy, 3500 for premium plus and $5 to 7,000 for business class.
While an open jaw is possible, a return to/from the same city and a separate AU domestic flight as needed another option.
Air NZ (via AKL) and Fiji Airlines (via NAN) are other options to non stop USA<--->AU
