During the fire power cut at Heathrow my cousin was stuck in Dublin for the return sectors of his BA cash ticket to Jo’burg in Y on the Friday night. He had been auto rebooked for the Monday, so BA on the line for 3 nights duty of care. He couldn’t get through to BA on the phone.
He saw a one way Emirates Y fare for that Friday night Dub-dxb-jnb for just over €600 so booked it. He put in a claim to BA for the fare and they have rejected it. He complained and has heard nothing further.
So OP I wouldn’t book a F ticket directly with Emirates hoping for a refund. It will probably be a battle.
