I noted this before and still standby it, including even if it means "downgrading" to Premium Economy for a better option with far less hassle/risk. KLM serves SAN which would arguably be the best option if OP could rebook to an option directly out of SAN. LAX, SFO, DEN, SEA, and DFW are all AF destinations and are easier to get to from SAN. OP could probably book a flight to any one of those the night before and worst case, still be able to get to any of those cities the morning of the TATL flight if need be.
Just to be clear on why we are particularly interested in making this Miami business class flight, I used American Express points for the booking, and Amex gave me a 30% bonus. So the flights cost me about 60,000 Amex points each, which is extremely inexpensive for Air France transatlantic business class. We don’t usually fly business class, so this is a little bit of a treat, even if it’s a hassle to get to Miami, under these circumstances.

Air France also did something fairly cool, although it may have been due to a glitch in their system. After I moved the miles over to AF, the flight showed to be the same price, but their system would not let me book at that level, and after about four tries, the price increased by something like 90,000 miles for the two of us. Air France gave me those Miles. They said they could see that I was trying to book the flights at a lower mileage level, but the system wouldn’t let me. If I cancel the flights, they would reclaim the roughly 90,000 miles that they gave me.

I understand that the Air France and KLM booking system had some issues that may have created the problem that I experienced in the first place. But I’m pretty sure that if this happened on most other airlines, they would not have given me any miles, they would’ve just told me “tough luck“.
