Interesting. I wonder what the reasoning is there — if you’re going to create these fares, you’d think you’d put them on city pairs that are less likely to be used for family travel.

UA has definitely been adding more APEX/RT fares lately, although the last time I mentioned it I got pushback.

Not
every discount fare has a RT requirement, but there are a lot of city pairs that do.
I agree with
narvik; I’m going to look at this as a discount for group purchases rather than a surcharge for individual purchases, and when I fly unaccompanied, I’m not going to sweat them.
