Just wrapped up my trip here — really fantastic property with better Globalist recognition than I would have expected from an AMG property. I'll caveat that my only other all inclusive experience was a Club Med pre-pandemic, but would highly recommend. It was a Category D when I booked, which felt like a steal, but is now a Category E.
Property- Not a mega property by any means, but also not tiny either — about 400 rooms and you could walk from the two furthest points of the hotel in ~10 min
- Incredibly well maintained, maybe it's just an all inclusive thing, but anything I noticed that was broken/decaying etc seemed to get fixed within hours
- They are doing a semi major renovation this summer: buffet and preferred club have been relocated, and the two poolside sit down dinner restaurants will be relocated from July-Nov (not fully closed, I think) later this summer. No disruption or noise, but I also am not sure they'll be able to pull off the same for restaurants that are maybe 30 feet from the pool.
Room- Really nice, high-end design, would just say it's designed for romance and it does that well
- Pretty much all the rooms are the same here, only real differentiator is 1st floor has swim out pools. Booked into a base room and got that in a room that had an "partial ocean" (but still excellent) rather than jungle view
- We had a issue where the wall was bubbling up and leaking water. They fully patched and fixed it within the 90 minutes we were out for dinner, and then apologized for the "temporary" fix — this place is so good at keeping the hotel in good shape
Status benefits- Globalists get: Access to preferred club and all preferred club benefits (better mini bar, better toiletries, access to day club with better bar), 4pm checkout, and a better room/building within your category
- Preferred Beach Club offers breakfast and lunch, and the bar is open until 11:00 p.m — was great for lunch, where I thought at the other food options were quite limited
- There's technically a "Preferred Club" section of the beach, but didn't seems enforced and was no nicer than the rest of the beach
- I believe there's actually an indoor club that's currently being renovated — if there was a new location for it in the interim, they didn't tell me where it is
F&B- Food was overall fine — wouldn't call it a standout other than El Patio, the Mexican restaurant, which was very good
- 6-7 restaurants for dinner each night, no reservations, Italian/Asian usually can get a tiny wait if you go early right at 6pm
- Outside of El Patio and the Preferred Beach Club, if you stick to the basics/don't get too ambitious, you'll have good meals
- 24/7 room service was actually pretty good, in some cases better than the restaurants, particularly for lunch
Service- Top notch, extremely proactive — and unlike some other resort properties I've been to — it didn't feel like a tipping game where I had to really tip heavily at first to get good service
Other stuff- If you're booking with a combo of cash/points, be aware that it will post in Secrets' system as two distinct stays. Didn't have any real implications for us other than the front desk being a little confused/their app thinking we weren't at the property at times
- As with all AMG properties, they will try and sell you on a timeshare. The check-in person basically hands you right off to the timeshare salesperson. We got off pretty light, I think because we're young and the agent thought we weren't a good target/maybe not even eligible, but I saw others getting grilled to attend a presentation.
