I suppose this goes to a wider issue of the disconnect between BA’s comms and marketing and the actual product on many occasions.
Of course you are right; a passenger doesn't care what's delayed them or why. Figures like this might not make sense to those who have been delayed on BA flights like many of us, especially as there's no methodology behind them. I don't believe BA make a big song and dance of their brake method?
However I suppose this has been brought in because BA (along with shareholders, IAG, and whoever else) do care, and have distinctions to make. Why issue public comms for delays they're not causing? If there are ATC hold-ups, or whatever else, I can see why they wouldn't want to shoulder it.
