Aegean's online check-in begins 48 hours before departure, but that's not when the flight "goes to airport control". In fact, phone agents have been able to see and manage "things" in my bookings (seats or voucher upgrades to name two) up to 4 hours before departure, at which point they'd inform me, that it was no longer possible for them, since the flight had gone into "airport control" and I could only speak to staff st the airport about upgrades etc.
So I'm not saying, that staff at the airport can't manage a booking more than 4 hours prior to departure, but that's what I have been told the threshold is for phone agents (last time was roughly a year ago).
PS. A "completely sold out flight" doesn't leave much room for interpretation, but anyway

And 4 hours before departure is when it became “completely sold out” hence my suspicion that revman upgraded the bids to solve the oversold problem in economy. It makes sense from a financial perspective to take money for upgrades instead of handing them out for free via coupons or opups and it looks like Aegean’s revman worked perfectly on that flight, as they never asked for volunteers to be offloaded. A resounding success for A3 but annoying for me. 🤣 Still, I can’t complain. I normally always manage to use my coupons up completely every year so this is the exception rather than the norm for me.
