Double-Dipping Elite Benefits & Mileage Credit—Still Possible with No “Re-Check-In”?

Hi all,

With all the changes going on with Southwest. I am shifting most of my flying to Alaska where possible; looking for up-to-date DPs on double-dipping elite benefits and mileage credit with Alaska and Oneworld partners while I work to get AS status.

The old trick was to use, say, your AA number for seat selection or other elite perks, then swap to your Alaska Mileage Plan number before departure—often by “re-checking-in” at the airport or online. But with the recent removal of the “re-check-in” option (see thread here), it seems this workaround may be gone.

Has anyone found a new method to change the FF# after initial check-in? Any recent success (or failure) stories with double-dipping since this change? Did your seat assignments or benefits stick after switching numbers, or did you lose them?

Alaska’s rules don’t explicitly ban this (unlike United), but it seems enforcement is tighter now. Would appreciate any fresh data points.

Thanks!
