Day 8: (Kilkee to Galway, I stayed at this hotel for two nights)
Interestingly, today turned out to be mostly about beaches and the wild Atlantic storming the coast bringing waves and waves. And cliffs. Always the cliffs.
The first stop was Spanish Point, a hot spot for surfers. Had a good chat with a visiting English surfer and his girlfriend before heading on to Clahane where the waves were even bigger.
Next up were the iconic cliffs of Moher. to be honest they actually do live up to the hype. Damn impressive.
Next up was the Murroughtuohy Viewpoint, the center of the famed Burren. Incredible history of this part of the island. Staggers the mind to ponder the time and the changes.
After a brief stop at Dunguaire Castle, I headed into the center of Galway to get some grocery and electronics shopping done. My adapter crapped out and I needed a new one. And who doesn't love a foreign supermarket? Stocked up with a few days’ worth of fun baked goods (always a must on the road for quick energy). Had dinner at the fancy restaurant at the hotel, a property which decided that I needed to be upgraded to a suite. Love it!
My route for the day:
Dig those waves! (@Clahane)
One of Ireland’s top tourist destinations, the Cliffs of Moher.
More Moher
The Burren (unique limestone karst landscape)
Dunguaire Castle
The suite, lucky!!
