I think that from a purely cost perspective the best AF status would be Gold. Platinum adds some nice perks and FB has a soft landing if you can’t requalify, but Gold already gets you most of the important things (SkyPriority, lounge access, seat selection, etc.).

It’s really a personal decision. I try to avoid stopovers as much as possible but if you don’t mind them, why not.
