I understand Southwest is joining Google Flights and other online search engines, etc. If the price they offer for an economy ticket is the cheapest, I think the planes will continue to be full. I really think most people shop based on price alone (even though a lot of us here don't.)
It will be interesting to see what happens.....
Depends on what you call "price". Was pricing out a trip recently, and saw Spirit for a fraction of the price of the nearest competitor. Went online to figure out what the price would be including the things that I needed (carry ons for all plus one checked bag, seats with my kids) and lo and behold it was more expensive. Booked with someone else.
The other thing is that with airline competition being what it is, you search online and for many routes the prices are identical. All airlines are $150 for BE and $200 for Y on a particular route, and WN is $200 for WGA. I'll book WN every time because a) guaranteed seating together for families, b) great lap child policy c) vouchers never expire d) effectively unlimited checked bags. Post 5/28, they are at best even footing with everyone else, with a few points taken off due to my spite.
