It seems you've made a good case for UA pausing the "race" by acknowledging UA's safety, insurance exposure, and union consent concerns in conducting commercial flight operations on the doorstep of an active bombing zone to an airport where a missile exploded on its perimeter less than a month ago?
possibly...but there is a longer term play here...AND on some level, there has been a constant threat of incoming missiles to Israel for many years. That risk has been managed. I don't understand how the current state of the conflict that is happening in Gaza affects the safety of Ben Gurion, more or less than threats that have existed and UA and others have flown through. The one missile that got through last month is and has always been a risk.
