I need some advice from the experts ;-) Flying with the family we are 5 people on a booking with LOT in PE. Having plenty of miles, I thought let's treat the return JFK-WAW leg and upgrade to C
However, I can only upgrade 4 people according to LOT CallCenter - or I can split the reservation, however the advice was not to do so as demand on USA routes is low and there is a chance of one of the two JFK-WAW flights daily might be cancelled and joint with the other, resulting in maybe some rebooking....

So here my ask from the experts: How risky is it to split the booking and see if I can get all 5 upgraded or -if you advise against this- what would be a reasonable amount to upgrade from PE to C on that route? Might consider buying the upgrade as opposed to using miles if that is a viable option...
