Haven't had it happen long haul, but at an almost 60-70% success rate, I've been given business upgrades on Schengen flights throughout all LH carriers (Lufthansa, Swiss, Brussels, and Austrian), usually while scanning my boarding pass during boarding. Never once asked for it, and I usually fly on the economy light fare
