This can easily be avoided by using VPNs. though.
I should've been more specific: calls to the SIM's local area, which would include BA's UK call centre assuming it's a UK SIM, should be covered as a UK call whether they're in the UK, St Lucia, or Outer Mongolia under WiFi calling. Yes, if they decide to make a call to St Lucia while they're in St Lucia using WiFi calling on a UK SIM will attract roaming charges.

Vodafone expressly forbids using WiFi Calling on roaming in their T&C: "The use of Wi-Fi Calling whilst roaming is prohibited and is not supported. However, in certain circumstances it may be possible to enable Wi-Fi Calling whilst abroad and where used additional charges will apply." (source)

A reminder not use Vodafone!

I can't say I've ever been charged making or taking calls to/from the UK with WiFi calling using either O2 or Three when abroad, and whether it was over my self-hosted VPN or not.

I guess the question is, practically speaking, is WiFi calling ever blocked or charged for when used to or from the SIM's local area when abroad? IME, no, it's not.
