IMO the so-called "window" seats that have you inches from the aisle but the maximum distance from the window just seem strange to be honest.
Just to understand this layout better, if you were travelling alone and wanted a window seat you would ALWAYS choose an even-numbered row, right?
This is a relatively common layout, so yes it is important to select the correct seat. For example LH's new layout has 6 or 7 different options
