What
lrdpenn is referring to are for-pay showers (very reasonably priced) in the public (landside) area of HND T3, where you will be after your arrival from the US.

Then there's lots of restaurants and such in the public area landside at T3.
Also just an FYI: an AA to JAL-domestic connection at HND requires clearing immigration and customs just like you are arriving at HND as your final destination. You then exit customs and are in the same public landside of the terminal as passengers terminating at HND. JAL has a recheck and domestic transfer bus station in this area.
Thanks, I assumed from previous experience I couldn't stay airside, so this makes more sense and rules out all of that. I do like that Japan airports have great facilities and restaurants landside, something we don't typically see in the US.
I heard that JAL won't let you check in to your flight prior to 3 hours, so that could be a problem if we want to go back to T1 airside. That said, we have no checked bags and have JAL tap-and-go (no check in required), but I'm unsure if we could still just stroll through. The only downside to the landside stay is we're now three people looking for showers/lounges versus two that would otherwise have access to something, but it's only money and things are quite affordable in Japan for an otherwise pretty pricey trip with premium flights/lodging/etc.
Appreciate the insight, I've only done wholly domestic transfers such as CTS-HND-NGO through HND, purely International like DFW-HND-BKK and I've also done the opposites like KIX-HND-LAX, so this is a new routing for me.
