I always take an earlier “repositioning” flight out of BNA so I have a solid 2nd chance flight - to get to my overseas flight. And I try to avoid the small Embraer jets. Personal preference.

I did miss a connecting flight to Australia a few years back. United put me up in a hotel (sort of 2 nights) because the SYD flight left around 11pm. I had a boarding pass but arriving plane was a bit delayed. Jet was still there but they had closed the door. Should have known I was coming.

Couldn’t get my checked bag.

For me it’s about not wanting to worry about a close connection. Meaning I build in 3 hours at FRA because that airport confuses me!
