The US flights tend to arrive early and I'd say plan 60 minutes for the luggage. If you can go with only hand luggage, it massively helps your case. So really it's all about your tolerance for risk of delays.

Basically if everything works fine, it should be fine since it's just go upstairs, check in and then security. The question is how much you're willing to risk the "if everything works fine" part of that.
