Kinda on-topic, but I was in the YEG MLL yesterday and a call finished early. So I decided to see if I could get on an earlier flight to YVR and went to the front desk.

I turns out the desired flight had just closed (about T-55 IIRC). The lounge staff tried calling the gate to see if they could re-open the flight but no joy. It was then that the Concierge stepped in because the lounge agent said that she did not have the necessary privileges to re-open the flight. This surprised me at the time, but maybe it makes sense in terms of privileges.

Regardless, Alice the Concierge did her magic and I got on the earlier flight and scored the last upgrade too. So it all worked out in the end. Especially since my original flight arrived in YVR late by 82 minutes.
