I've noticed some quirks with the map like those mentioned in the OP, but the other really annoying quirk I've had with a few of the MAXes is that you'll select some content to play back, it will go through the ad roll and then just...nothing. The good news for that one is if you flag a FA down and ask them to reset your seat (which can be done from the front galley) and that has fixed it every time I've had it happen.

The other "stupid airplane seat trick" I found last year which thankfully appears to have been resolved is that if you hit things in the right order starting IFE video playback, then trying to do the map in the "split screen playback" mode (which I love) the seat would crash 100% of the time. And "Excuse me, my seat seems to have crashed" is not a phrase I enjoy saying anywhere, let alone at 35,000 feet.
