Taking a legit (Karwa) taxi you are very unlikely to get ripped off. Join the Karwa taxi queue, pay by card (or cash). There's an airport surchage.

Sheraton Four-points is very metro friendly: Msheireb station is 5-stops, no change, from the airport.
The Sheraton is quite a slog, getting on for a mile from the metro (DECC station, again no change). If you are firmly into cost saving I guess you could take metro+uber.
