No, YBM instant upgrade was the only way to get any upgrades for
you domestically. My CPU rate this year is still hovering around 50%, maybe a little lower. None of those were YBM purchases.
If you fly peak times, between UA’s top destinations, you will not get CPUs. If you fly at other times, or to/from other destinations, CPUs are a real benefit. Certainly not a
guaranteed benefit, and more than once have I wished I’d pulled the trigger on a buy-up. But let’s not pretend that they never occur.

The E+ fares were never intended to convey Instant Upgrade benefits, and I'm sure are another nail in the coffin for the benefit.
Agreed. The point of this was to prioritize people who bought unrestricted fares, either because of a company / government policy or because of limited inventory. The differential B fares were never intended to be included.
