But it's not just ghost availability. Something is off in general with MU awards. One of the awards I tried to have the TA book for me because I wanted to use miles overdraft, and they couldn't see that flight at all as available. They even tried to manually force a booking, but no luck. I was only short of some few thousand miles so I transferred in from Amex, and after the online dance of the flight showing or not showing, eventually I was able to pay and receive the ticket.

EDIT: For departing MLE, you might want to look into going to NBO with KQ, and then there will be more options.
