If you're "travelling today", then even if it's something that doesn't need a concierge, you get a concierge.
Even for a missed connection, unless the replacement flight I want is about to close for check-in, I find it quicker to deal with it through res.
My recent examples (in this thread and IRROPS thread):
1. Would have missed the flight without a concierge, and it would have been entirely my fault.
Concierge Service – Expectations & Experiences (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly)
2. Broke MCT for me, and met me with a golf cart, getting me home substantially earlier than booked.
Concierge Service – Expectations & Experiences (The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly)
3. Was the only pax allowed off a plane that returned to gate for a mechanical issue, which absolutely would have blown my connection if I hadn't called in.
IRROPs - Cancellation / Delay / Diversion etc. WITHIN 48 HOURS of departure (2024)
I guess my attitude is more that if res can do it, you should be talking to res.
I had this last one happen three times in a row flying YVR-YYC-LHR
It happened a while ago now but, if I recall correctly, the layover in YYC was right at the MCT. Each time, YVR-YYC had some issue after the doors had closed and time ticked down making it more likely I’d miss the connection.
Each time I called concierge and explained the situation, and they immediately moved me to the nonstop YVR-LHR, protected my upgrade, I deboarded, and I got to relax in the intl MLL instead.
After the first time I realized that it wouldn’t be a bad strategy to get a confirmed upgrade in advance on YYC-LHR (which was easier at the time) and bank on the same thing happening again, which it did
