A lot of the traffic between NYC and JFK is going away from the city. Construction around JFK has also made traffic a lot more congested. Getting from EWR to the NYC boros will be the easier part here, it will be the drive towards JFK from there that will be less predictable, especially due to construction right around JFK (I've spent 20+ minutes just trying to get to my Terminal after entering JFK's airport roadways recently!).

I agree 1h:45m to 2h:00 is what you'd want to bank on.
