I've never managed to get an agent to do so for me ahead of the upgrade. I've asked to be seated next to my partner and been told to come back after the upgrade clears, after time which of course they're not happy to move anyone else unless it's someone on staff travel. Anything magical you say to them to get that to work, or just luck of the draw?
