Can I combine AA and BA award tickets?

I have a AA award in F DFW-JFK-LHR arriving 615, with plans to go to EDI later that morning. I'd like to book the Y tix on 815 flight, which is enough time if the incoming is on time, but could easily get tight if there's any delay.

1. can I combine my AA and BA tickets so that any delay would result in auto rebooking on the next flight? As far as I can tell this would be a legal connection but you just can't book an F award ticket terminating in EDI, at least not online.
2. if I can't combine the tickets would BA do anything for me at all to rebook a missed connection or would we be SOL? The Y ticket is only 9500 Avios plus $1 ea so cancelling at the last minute, assuming I have time to do so from my phone, I wouldn't be out much as I'd only lost the $1. However booking a last minute replacement flight for later the same day could be £200-450 each, which I certainly want to avoid.

The next flight would be at 10:40 in J only. Would cost about 9700+$65 which isn't bad, I just want to spend as much of the day as possible in EDI and not be overly conservative on the connection times.
