Surprisingly Cheap Upgrade
Hi all, I am hoping someone can explain what happened here, so that I can hopefully replicate in the future.
I had to fly on very short notice this weekend. Used some aeroplan points from YEG to YYZ, and found an unreal price on the way back with WestJet with a connection in YYC ($264 whereas everything/everywhere else was like $500 and more). It was one of those "weird" sites, so a bit concerned initially, but the flight was ticketed within seconds, all legit. Don't know what fare bucket, but it came with a carry-on and a row 11 seat assignment. I almost invariably buy basic because I have the RBC MasterCard so luggage is not an issue.
By the time I bought the ticket it was almost time for check-in. When I did, I was offered a bulkhead seat for $169 (Canadian). I thought it was a bit steep, but looked at the seat map, and it was seat 1D. 4 abreast. I thought maybe it's a mistake, but looked up the aircraft on flightradar24 and planespotters, it was the right configuration.
Nowhere in the seat buying process did I see anything to suggest this was a class upgrade. Is this normal? This must be the cheapest upgrade I've ever had for a 4-hour flight.
Only bummer is apparently their wifi works differently now. I could not figure out how to use my CC perk (used to sign in through boingo...)
