I know several people, very high end cruisers, who do this whenever their cruise line offers a 0% supplement.

I just feel a little guilty about abusing the spirit of the offer. Though an even worse abuse would be to book one person in a nice suite and the other in the cheapest cabin on the ship.
What would be the purpose of the cheap, distant cabin? Storage? There doesn't seem much benefit. Are the per-cabin perks that significant?

So it's an accepted (and acceptable) practice as far as the cruise lines are concerned?

As far as I know
I've never heard of anyone being harassed or affected in any way for doing it. Perhaps others have heard otherwise?
I'm not saying I promote the practice. I have just heard of people doing it.
If the cruise line didn't like it, they might not let you keep the adjacent or nearby cabins?
