You have to pick out which specific attractions you plan to go to and determine which hotels are good for your itinerary.
Given that the popular sights to see are spread out all over the city, I'm not sure there will be a best hotel location-wise unless we opt to skip some of the typical stops. I won't know until closer in what exactly our sight-seeing plan is, so I'm going to have to pick a property and just go with it and make it work.

I stayed at all three Hyatt in Kyoto before. Personally I really enjoyed PH but it is a very personal choice. I will pick HP over HR though.
I haven't tried all of the Hyatt hotels in Kyoto, obviously, but PH is toward the top of my list simply because the property is lovely as is the area it's located in. HP would be my second choice, from a cost standpoint and because the location doesn't seem overly inconvenient. At this point I am strongly leaning toward PH just because I know we'll enjoy the room and the hotel, probably enough so to make the non-ideal location for seeing the rest of the city worthwhile.
