The one exception is if the itinerary is during the summer and the DTW-ATL flight departs around 2:00 PM or later. ATL is notorious for summer thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening that cause ground delays at departing airports (DTW) that then have ripple effects on all connections. If this applies to your itinerary, then I would plan for a longer connection.
