The policy:
If you think you'll miss your flight, let us know before your flight departs in order to receive the value of your ticket as credit to use on a future flight in your wallet. Please note that Saver fares* are not eligible for changes.
If you don't cancel your ticket before your flight departs, we'll apply our no-show policy to your entire reservation.
This means:
We'll cancel your flight reservation and all continuing and return flights.
The money and/or Mileage Plan™ miles spent on non-refundable fares will not be available as credit towards a future flight.Until July 19, 2023, Saver fares may only be canceled under our

From the TA page:
No-show policy
When a confirmed flight segment is not changed or canceled prior to the scheduled flight departure, the guest is considered a "no show" passenger. Currently, when a guest is a no-show for a flight, all itinerary segments associated with the reservation are automatically cancelled and the money and/or miles associated with the flight's fare will also be forfeited. At the time the flights are no showed, associated VCR coupons will be changed to USED status. VCR coupons associated to each flight will continue to change to USED status as flights are missed. Waitlisted segments that clear prior to departure, can trigger the No Show process when missed and result in cancellation of the downline itinerary.
This policy change encompasses non-refundable tickets, with domestic or international itineraries. The only exceptions are fully refundable or government fares.
To prevent a loss of ticket value, take the following steps prior to a scheduled flight departure.
Partial itinerary cancellations:
- Cancel the any unwanted confirmed or waitlisted segments prior to the flight departure.
- Add any additional segments.
- Reprice at a current fare and reissue the ticket.
- If the new ticket is less expensive, price the remaining segments at a higher value to retain the maximum ticket value.
Complete itinerary cancellation:
- Cancel all confirmed and waitlisted segments of the itinerary prior to the flight departure.
- No reissue is necessary. The ticket will retain value and remain in OK status until the ticket is reissued or expires.
- For award tickets, go online to alaskaair.com or contact Alaska's Inside Sales Desk for assistance.
What if a guest calls just after the scheduled flight departure?
- The automatic system has a short grace period to accommodate those running late.
- Once the scheduled flight time has passed, VCR action is required to prevent the automatic system from changing coupons to USED.
- If the VCR coupons are still in OK status, reissuing the tickets will prevent them from changing to USED. They may be used as a credit towards changes or future travel on Alaska Airlines, subject to add collects, change fees per fare rules and validity dates.
- If the client does not know when they plan to travel, contact ISD to have a travel credit certificate issued, per the fare rules.
- Once the ticket status is changed to USED it cannot be reopened.

I don't really get how this is intended to prevent the purchase of a nonrefundable ticket to get into the lounge as long as the person cancels before the flight as they have still been able to get into the lounge and still retained the ticket value.
