I'm wondering if this thread shouldn't over in security rather than travel buzz?

Problems 2 out of the past 3 nights. A Best Western property in Albuquerque asked for my ID. I showed him my driver's license; he took out of my hand - my bad. Found my reservation, etc. Then I caught him entering my DL # using the keypad. I grabbed my DL before he could finish. He told me that he couldn't check me in without my DL # and address. I told him that my address was in my profile. He said PO Boxes weren't acceptable. I told him that wasn't happening. He called his 'manager'; spoke in a language not understandable to me. He told me that is was 'the law in NM' to record this information and that was that. I left. I'm disputing the no show charge and I've filed a complaint with the Albuquerque Consumer Protection office. I immediately booked a room at a Choice property nearly across the street with no issue.

A Wyndham property in Flagstaff requires IDs to be scanned - both sides. I wouldn't hand her my DL. Again, no scan, no check-in. I asked why. She read from a piece of paper - essentially she was just doing as she was told. She reluctantly accepted my GE card. I am staying two nights - separate reservations. She did mention that she thought she was doing as she was told, but she doubted tomorrow morning's manager will go for it when I checkout and check back in. A quick search shows that AZ hotels must verify DOB via an ID scanner, but the property may not retain the information. DOB is on the GE card, so we'll see.

Again, its my understanding that having one's DL information can do a lot of damage if it gets matched up with a SSN.
