We are currently in Dominica---family of 3 traveling on an Alaska award on AA that was in first class/business class (DCA to MIA; MIA to DOM), but due to a mechanical issue, we were put on a later flight out of DCA that failed to get us to MIA in time for the connecting flight. Due to the MIA-DOM flight being full the next day, we were sent to ANU to spend the night and then took a Caribbean Airways flight from ANU to DOM. The three replacement flights were in economy, and we arrived in DOM 24 hours late, but AA covered most costs in Antigua. Since this was a downgrade from the booked ticket, I think AA owes us something,, but what is the appropriate strategy in this instance? They probably can't ask Alaska to give us some miles back because it was their service failure, so is the most likely reasonable outcome a flight voucher for three of us from AA? If so, what would be a reasonable dollar value for a voucher request? Thanks!
